More often than not, as an amateur, I stumble across the identification of a plant by accident. Try as I will to follow a systematic method, only sometimes do I succeed in learning what a plant is in this way. Other times I run across a description and picture of the plant in a book that I’m reading or browsing for other reasons, or someone mentions to me the name of a plant that I am curious. These times are the accidental times.
I write about the plants I’m learning in A Neotropical Savanna, but sometimes I get caught up in some other aspect of plants that have little to do with plants where I live. Here is where I ramble about those things as well as other odds and ends that come to mind – the weather, the language of botany or just plain old language, or even more random, unanticipated things.
